The former cod warehouse, a building from the late 1930s, was transformed into the new headquarters of the Oriental Foundation in Lisbon, next to the Foundation's Museum of Oriental Art.
The building is classified as a monument of public interest. At the time, the cod business was very important for the country's economy, which is why the construction of warehouses and offices linked to this trade were so important.
Over time, the building has had many different uses and has been heavily degraded. The project intended to restore the original design, maintaining all the elements that define the original architecture, and cleaning up everything that was built over time that had nothing to do with the original.
Although the modernist language remains very present in the existing architectural elements, it is intended that they coexist with contemporary characteristics, such as the vibrant new colors , red, black and yellow, the subtlety of the new lighting, reinforced with pieces of oriental art from the Museum, with the objective of giving the institution its own personality with a touch of oriental culture.
