White walls set in the rock with panoramic views towards the Strait of Gibraltar and Africa, it could be described, in a nutshell, the residence-study that an artist has decided to realize for itself in Gaucin, a village in the autonomous community of Andalusia ; a home designed as a one place in which lights and landscape could always give inspiration. The project, entrusted to the study of architecture _ DTR Studio Architects, has created an architecture that seeks to appropriate the beauty of nature and keep it inside, in his room, in his paintings.
The mountain community where it is located, characterized by narrow streets and white-washed buildings, suggested the idea of playing with neutral walls and shadows, so that the building could be integrated perfectly with the context. Its location in one of the highest areas of the village, gives a broad view over the landscape and plays a decisive role in the definition of the form: a white prism carved into the rock and open to the landscape.
The relationship between the various internal spaces and the architecture and between the surrounding nature, are seamless. The painting studio, located on the ground floor, has a double height that allows to paint large-format paintings and represents the heart of this total white house, from which you can see the other rooms such as the bedroom, built with a light structure of wood and steel, overlooking on open space.
Light control,takes place during the day thanks to a courtyard carved into the stone, it is a feature that gives quality to the space and makes it functional activity for which it was designed.
The living area upstairs is developed as a large open space in constant relation with the exterior, both visually, thanks to the panoramic windows and physically, with access to a balcony with stunning views.
Going upstairs, through a stairway or walkway located in the garden you are greeted by a veritable oasis, where, in the white of the floor and walls, the colors of the sky are reflected, the clear water of the pool and the green of the mountains.
