The house is located in a residential park. One of the most important conditions was a maximum footprint of 250m2 to build in this wooded area. Since the client is a butterfly collector, the design of floor plan is based on the morphology of a butterfly. The body and the two wings are translated into a zone to cook and eat, a relaxing or living area and an office area on the ground level. The facades that face the street are relatively closed in contrast to the facades that face the garden. These are completely open, glazed facades that embrace the garden.

The first floor, which houses the sleeping areas, is wrapped in reflective glazing to mirror the trees and clouds. This way, the house blends into its environment as much as possible. Behind the glass a dark red lacquer is used. It reveals itself depending on the position of the sun. This detail has a surprising and playful effect and is also a reference to the bark of the pine trees in the area.

The project is completely based on a grid size of 1,2m. Every wall and floor tile in natural stone, as well as every seam of the exterior joinery all aligned with the grid. Every height is 60cm and every width 120cm or a multiple thereof.

Clear lines, plain elegance, and spectacular openness is made possible here with slender, modern window elements from Keller.

The boomerang shaped ground floor of the structures frames the pool to the south side of the house. Thanks to the integrated minimal windows ® sliding and fixed systems, the living space is optimally combined with the patio to form a single unit. The combination of light-coloured basic structure and large glazing areas enable a fluid interplay between modern architecture and natural surroundings. A highly functional feature, the large, fully opening minimal windows® outside corner solution creates a barrier-free connection to the villa’s patio and garden.

Meanwhile, the recessed glass structure on the upper floor offers residents a great deal of light and unhindered views, while tinting in the panes offers privacy and protection from the sun. The entire storey was built with slender minimal windows® highline design elements.

More from the manufacturer:

The two-storey structure blends softly into the existing topography thanks to the clear language of forms and harmonious colour. The clever exterior and interior concept of the detached villa impresses with modern architecture and plain elegance. Clear lines and balanced proportions shape the property according to the individual needs of the residents and present the individual elements as a conceptual whole.

Plain elegance: The down-to-earth entrance area with the symmetrically arranged masonry catches the eye immediately from the street. The interior courtyard is protected from prying eyes with the help of the garden design and the precisely positioned shrubs to the left and right of the property. Only a narrow entrance door grants entry to the visitor. The mirror glass installed next to the front door makes the entrance appear larger and invites one to enter the stylish and friendly interior of the property.

The boomerang-shaped ground plot of the structure beautifully frames the pool to the south side of the house. The ground floor is characterised by charm and simplicity. Thanks to the perfectly integrated minimal windows® sliding and fixed systems, the existing living space is optimally combined with the patio to form a single unit. The combination of light-coloured basic structure and large glazing areas enables an astounding interplay between sensual, modern architecture and natural surroundings. Particularly remarkable is the large, fully opening minimal windows® outside corner solution as a barrier-free connection to the villa's patio and garden.

The interior rooms are finished in brilliant white and round off the overall image of the property in its sensuality. Stylish fittings and purposefully selected furniture, combined with modern design elements, complete the aesthetic appearance of the villa and link architecture and well-being in a perfect way. A new building has been created that stands for completeness and naturalness – the owner's requirements that had to be accounted for in the planning and implementation.

The striking element of the property is the perfectly presented recessed glass structure of the upper floor, which grants the residents a great deal of light and an unhindered view. The villa is given a natural and self-contained look through the mirroring of the rural surroundings in the glass panes. At the same time, the tinted window panes offer ideal privacy and protection from the sun. The entire storey was built with slender minimal windows® highline design elements and enables an outstanding panoramic view of the surrounding greenery. The spectacular openness dominates with maximum incidence of daylight.

Brand description

Keller minimal windows® is a leading system manufacturer for design sliding systems. Under the name minimal windows® these innovative, virtually frameless sliding windows and doors are installed in particular in higher-class private and commercial buildings. Keller minimal windows® manufactures with 50 employees on a production area of 8,400 square metres in Troisvierges, Luxembourg. Dreams made of aluminium and glass are presented on an exhibition area of more than 2,000 square metres.

Individuality is our strength. Development of the Keller minimal windows® design sliding system began in 2008. Minimum facing widths of the profiles, post-free corner solutions and the possibility of large glass areas of the sliding systems cater to the architectural trend toward transparency and the creation of light-flooded rooms. Keller minimal windows® presented the energy-efficient variant, Keller minimal windows®4+, at the BAU 2013 in Munich. This is the superlative system with triple-glazed insulated design leaves in a low-energy standard, manufacturable leaf weights of up to 1,000 kg and sliding leaves with glass areas of up to 12 sq. metres. All sliding systems can optionally be equipped with electric drives. Keller minimal windows® intends to expand its European and international activities further via specialised glass and metal construction partner companies. The Keller minimal windows® design sliding systems hit the bulls eye of modern architecture. They will be distributed quickly by expert partner companies, not just as prefabricated system components, but also as custom system elements.
