This Northern Minnesota cabin replaces an old non-insulated structure. The orientation shifted from parallel to the lake to the east of the existing cabin to a longer plan facing south and looking toward the restored old cinder block sauna. This shift allowed the east end to be fully glazed without visual obstruction and provide a south facing deck and a welcoming entry under the cantilevered second floor.

The master bedroom is on the main floor with the two guest rooms on the upper level. A work shop is in the main floor with a terrace under another cantilever of the main floor. A new boat house flanks the fireplace terrace on the shore line.

The all wood interior is of local supplied material. The exterior is stained with a pine tar-like treatment and a splash base is installed below the wood siding for protecting the siding longevity. The dry laid stone walls, steps and pathways provide a wonderful warmth and contextual appropriateness to the rugged Northern Minnesota setting.
