Jansen-Noy is a fashion shop in the center of the small town of Sevenum in Limburg. In the heart of the village, the shop has grown into a leading company with a shopsize of approximately 2000 m2. In 2013, the owners decided that it was possible to expand the area of the shop to 4500 m2.
The location of the shop in the heart of the village was a design challenge for ARCHES architects BNA.
At this location a simple "steel box" was not acceptable; the expansion had to be carefully embedded in the small, picturesque streets of the village heart. The expansion had to be rigorously designed and sharply calculated because the clients wanted to invest primarily in the inside and interior of the store and had a limited budget available for the exterior.
Because around Sevenum there are many greenhouses, ARCHES architects BNA has taken the greenhouse-model as a starting point for the design of the expansion. By dividing the long new facade into several smaller elements, the new volume looks not too huge in the small village streets. The roof structure, which is so characteristic of the greenhouses, is also used in the design. Soon the new building was called "The houses of Jansen-Noy" by the neighborhood. This greatly increased the acceptance of the new construction by the village residents. Due to the careful choice of materials, the expansion of the shop has a contemporary face that fits seamlessly into the village center.
