Komorebi:
“Japanese word that describes sunlight filtering through the leaves of trees, creating a shimmering interplay of light and shadow that moves with the wind.” This pavilion is a project developed within the course Making Pavilions. Experimental Ephemeral Architectures with Parametric Design, part of the Master's and Diploma in Construction of Architectural Works (MDCOA), and the Digital Integration Center (CID), at the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urbanism (FADU/UDELAR). The goal was to create ephemeral wooden architecture, designed using parametric design tools and materialized through subtractive digital fabrication techniques.
Parametric design allowed the exploration of complex geometries based on logical rules, linking form and material behavior. Using software such as Rhinoceros and Grasshopper, students were able to precisely control each component, optimizing material use and facilitating assembly. Subtractive digital fabrication—primarily using CNC routing—was carried out at FADU's FabLab, promoting a design approach that integrates design, technology, and construction. This integrative experience enhances professional training from a contemporary perspective, where computational thinking and material experimentation converge into new ways of making architecture.
