As part of a medieval convent, the original layout of this space allowed only one room to have direct sunlight and a view to the outdoors. Because of this, it was decided to turn it into a loft. By adding a large, floor to ceiling window to the terrace and creating an open space, natural light was able to travel throughout the entire apartment. The major challenge was to bring back to life the authentic elements that once characterized this medieval structure. This was achieved by removing centuries of layered walls and ceilings that covered the original features.
The main purpose of the new layout was to optimize every centimeter of the space. The living room, dining room, kitchen, studio, bedroom, closet, laundry room, and two bathrooms were perfectly designed inside the 100 m2. The stainless steel kitchen along with the dining area, are the heart of the apartment. The client wished to have an open area where he could comfortably cook and entertain his guests. As it is our signature, we wanted to create a modern home respecting the ancient essence of the original space. Merging the two eras in a well-balanced design.
