This sleek and deluxe kitchen in an apartment building at the heart of Jerusalem was designed for a family with 3 young children. As native Brooklynites, they both desired simple forms and generous proportions to give their home an American style. This, along with their busy lifestyle and kosher standard, gave the designer Gittie Perl many requirements in planning the kitchen.
The first challenge was the layout. Having combined two apartments, the area designated to the kitchen had originally been a number of small rooms. The designers cleverly incorporated the small windows using double window shades to present an illusion of larger windows.
The open-plan layout is perfect for the busy mother to interact with her children as she cooks. The double doors at the end of the kitchen lead to a relaxed play area offering close proximity to a comfy kids’ zone.
Keeping a strictly kosher kitchen means possessing three of everything, with separate sinks and ovens. Gittie successfully incorporated the necessary space needed with ample counter tops, cabinets and drawers while maintaining a minimalistic yet sophisticated look. Thus she satisfied her clients storage needs, allowing for seamless food prep in each section with all her equipment functionally accessible.
The highlight is the magnificent waterfall island exuding an organic focal point in the heart of the kitchen. The same Sea Pearl Quartzite was used throughout the counters, island and backsplash evoking a sense of flow throughout the kitchen. This is further enhanced by the handpicked trio of earthy colors on the cabinet doors which, while creating a visual contrast, perfectly merge with the Sea Pearl. A bright mat gold finish was used for the faucets and finishes adding the perfect final touch to this particularly enchanting kitchen.
