Completed in 2022 within Ankara's prestigious YDA Center, the 150-square-meter NRC International headquarters designed by Umut GURLER Mimarlik Ltd. Sti. merges dynamic parametric forms with industrial architectural elements to create a highly ergonomic and forward-thinking workspace.
Situated in the commercial district of Sogutozu, the project demanded a sophisticated interior fit-out that would accurately reflect the client's strong corporate identity while maximizing a compact 150-square-meter footprint. The primary challenge was balancing the need for distinct functional zones—such as executive offices, meeting rooms, and collaborative working areas—without making the space feel confined. The design team was tasked with creating an environment that felt both expansive and intimate, overcoming the spatial constraints by carefully manipulating volume, light, and form. Providing adequate privacy for high-level meetings while maintaining a welcoming reception and circulation area required a strategic approach to spatial configuration and material selection.
To address these requirements, the design philosophy centered on a sophisticated monochrome color palette, chosen specifically to enhance the perceived spatial volume and provide a neutral, calming backdrop for daily operations. In the circulation and common areas, the original ceiling structure was left intentionally exposed, establishing an industrial aesthetic that significantly increases the feeling of spaciousness. This raw overhead canvas is strategically illuminated by concealed light strips in the primary working zones to optimize the ambient atmosphere, while striking pendant lighting elements draw the eye upward to emphasize the ceiling height and establish clear focal points. Contrasting with the industrial ceiling, the spatial configuration introduces dynamic, moving parametric design elements within the reception and common areas, imparting a futuristic depth to the environment.
To ensure a smooth, ergonomic user experience, sharp corners were entirely avoided throughout the floor plan. Instead, fluid oval forms and custom-manufactured wood niche applications were integrated to soften physical transitions between different departments. For executive offices and meeting rooms where confidentiality is paramount, specialized acoustic panel solutions were installed. These panels effectively mitigate noise transfer, ensuring essential sound insulation while contributing a refined textural aesthetic to the minimalist interior.
Ultimately, the NRC International office stands as a testament to how thoughtful interior architecture can elevate corporate culture and user well-being. By seamlessly blending raw industrial elements with soft, fluid geometry and advanced acoustic treatments, the space offers an exceptionally balanced working environment. Captured through the lens of architectural photographer Elif Ezgi Sevindik, the finished project delivers a lasting legacy of modern efficiency, proving that even a modest footprint can be transformed into a dynamic, spacious, and highly functional headquarters that anticipates the future of workplace design.
