Peet’s Coffee Donghu Road - Kokaistudios

Seth Powers Photography as Photographers

The first Peet’s store outside of the Unites States. The designer Kokaistudios choose to follow the coffee and make its journey from bean to final product the central experience of the space all the while keeping the California vibe.

The 340 sq.m flagship is located on the ground-floor of a reconverted office tower on a leafy beautiful street in Shanghai and features both indoor and outdoor seating linked by a series of swing-up windows that create a strong al-fresco feel. The interiors are designed to create an immersive coffee experience and the space revolves around the large semi-circular main bar counter where customers can get an up-close view of the baristas at work backed by the open-view roaster area housing the large Probat equipment where the team prepare the beans fresh daily. Spreading out for the central bar the space is divided into both seating areas as well as more retail focused areas where beans and products are displayed. The seating areas are divided into a variety of banquette and individual seating areas with the main seating area featuring an expansive green wall that suffuses the space with a calm, fresh and relaxing feeling reminiscent of the coffee plantations from which Peet’s sources its beans.

A large communal table has been designed to hold regular educational sessions and seminars where clients can learn more about Peet’s and how it delivers throughout its operations it goal to deliver the best coffee in the world in a sustainable community oriented way. The store has been designed to appeal to all of the senses and the combination of colors, patterns & materials come together to give a California vibe which together with the quality and smells of the coffee itself come together to create a space that since its opening in the autumn of 2017 has become a must-experience destination for coffee aficionados from around China.
