Heritage Restoration and Sustainable Adaptive Reuse
Located in the São Geraldo district, in Porto Alegre’s 4th District, Brazil, the historic industrial building Prédio da Torre has been transformed into a contemporary business hub through a sensitive restoration process. The project combines the preservation of the existing building fabric with a modern architectural language, demonstrating the potential of adaptive reuse for industrial heritage buildings.
A Translucent Façade
A key element of the redesign is the façade made of translucent polycarbonate panels. It gives the building a contemporary identity while allowing diffused natural daylight to penetrate deep into the spacious industrial hall. The result is a bright, open working environment that preserves the original industrial structure. The new building envelope brings together historic fabric and modern materials to create a distinctive architectural expression.
Preserving the Past, Shaping the Future
The renovation prioritises the continued use of existing structures, preserving their architectural qualities while adapting them to contemporary needs. The approximately 1,483 m² of space comprises the ground floor, the second floor and an exclusive rooftop terrace, which extends the building’s spatial offering with an attractive outdoor area.
As part of the urban transformation of Porto Alegre’s 4th District, the project demonstrates how historic industrial architecture can be given a new lease of life through sustainable adaptive reuse and contemporary design. The result is a transformation that preserves the building’s industrial heritage while bringing it into the present through a translucent architectural envelope.
