DESCRIPTIVE MEMORY
Caballito neighborhood is characterized by its low old –style houses which date back to the late nineteenth century and the early twentieth century,
granting a particular and interesting identity to the area with a certain degree of nostalgia.
When the project was commissioned, we found a splendid casa chorizo (Sausage-house, a typical sort of construction in buenos aires) from 1913, with
perimetral walls of 45 cm and double height vaulted roofs, the classic adjacent rooms, and the patio with a gallery.
The intervention consisted in turning the house into a condominium of three loft type residences on three plants, enhancing the existing expressive noble
materials such as bricks, vaults, metal beams, pinotea beams, cedar doors, and antique bathtubs, with a strong contribution of modernity.
Each unit is independent and from the entrance the space opens up in a continuum to the exterior… A volume in color serves as a piece to articulate the
space while a system of internal-external staircases allows spatial fluidity.
A big pivoting gate makes up a total linkage of the interiors with a triangular outdoor patio and a second triangular patio projecting over it (linked by
another pivoting gate to the stair landing on the first floor), ending from there in an access to the garden terrace.
To sum up, it was possible to achieve a strong relationship between the indoor and outdoor space through a series of external patios and terraces which
articulate the different spaces, thus recovering a historical typology and restating its language with a variety of spatial sensations within a small area length.
