Conceptually, this project follows the line of the series of nature refuges designed by this office, in other words, privileging nature. The simple shape of the straight lines, in an attempt to cancel out the landscape, shows that what matters most is the outside area of the refuge. The rectangular monoblock configuration of the refuge in a flatter conformation in the landscape is a reminder that this place, embedded in the Atlantic Forest of southern Brazil and full of araucaria trees, is a destination for contemplating the stillness of nature and family life in the atmosphere of living in a way that is disconnected from the hustle and bustle of big cities.

The construction system used to build this refuge was light wood frame. The intention of using this modular system was to speed up the construction process by using prefabricated components, to reduce the waste of materials, to produce the least amount of waste on site and to be more sustainable by using wood, a renewable material.

The external side walls in exposed brick add a rustic tone to the refuge, giving it a welcoming feel and harmony with the natural environment. In addition to these conceptual and aesthetic reasons, bricks are technically highly resistant and durable, thus contributing to the longevity of the construction and low maintenance.

The simple rectangular floor plan has large openings on the façade of the suites and the social space, which run both widthways and heights. These large openings in the refuge's living spaces facing the vegetation allow for a greater visual and sensory connection with the natural environment, allowing the beauty of the abundant vegetation to enter the living space. What's more, the large openings offer better natural lighting and ventilation, reducing the need for energy for lighting during the day. Another benefit of the refuge's openings is natural cross ventilation. This technique was implemented by using four vertical openings on the façade opposite the suites and social space as air outlets. This way, the fresh air from the dense forest in front of the house circulates inside the rooms, pushing the hot air outside.

The transitional space between the refuge's internal environment and the natural environment outside is a wooden deck just in front of the social area. On one side it forms a balcony for contemplating nature, about three meters high, and on the other side it connects to the green area in front of the suites, and consequently to the closed native forest in front.
