At this innovative student residence, the load bearing construction, constructed with CLT (Cross laminated timber), serves as a central part of the architectural design, as well accentuating the project’s sustainable profile.

The facades are clad with heart pine in combination with brightly colored STENI Colour facade panels, which are a fibreglass reinforced polymer composite panel with a smooth surface of electron beam-cured acrylic.

September 2016 marked the official opening of the Remmen student accommodation blocks in Halden, clad in ore-pine and green STENI façade panels.

“Student residences have a high turnover of residents, and from experience we know that means tough use,” says Tone Krange Thorsen, CEO BAS Architects.

For the Remmen student accommodation blocks, they used a combination of green panels from STENI and sustainable ore-pine to underscore the importance the project places on the natural areas around the buildings.

STENI façade panels are extremely durable and can withstand tough use with minimal maintenance.

The project features four building volumes creating a fan-shape framing a shared outdoors space. The outdoors space allows sunlight to easily reach into and between the structures.  

Spaces surrounding the buildings serve as an arena for interaction and socialisation between the students with permanent furnishing and a barbecue area suitable for all seasons.
