A PRESTIGIOUS APPARTMENT IN ROME, WHERE YOU CAN IDEALLY TAKE A DIP IN THE WATER, AS IF YOU WHERE ON THE SEA

Loto AD Project as Architects

In Rome's Farnesina district, architect Giorgia Dennerlein realizes an apartment of over 200 sqm as if it was a luxury boat.

Continuous and circular lines, transparencies, entirely customized interiors. Casa Farnesina sums up the rigour and fluidity that shapes Giorgia Dennerlein's stylistic style. Here, she is working on a radical restyling of a 220 m2 flat on the third floor of a building in the famous Roman quarter, not far from the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The owner, an entrepreneur with a great passion for boating, left arch. Dennerlein a raw fabric to be modelled as he wished, an open space, interrupted on by the structure supporting columns,  to be completely re imagined. And so it was.

Dennerlein intervened by breaking up the traditional pattern of subdividing spaces and moulding the design as if it were a pied dans l'eau, without sharp edges, sophisticated and made to measure.

Everything has been designed and handcrafted with a high level of carpentry work: from the furniture to the cupboards and partitions, from the kitchen to the doors, some of which, in glass and concealed, are diaphragms designed in harmony with the overall design of the house. The walls have the warm texture of the ARTE Effeitalia and DEDAR wallpapers that recall the linear horizon of the sea when it is calm or the streaking of shells. The flooring is a single skin that runs through the entire house, a beige-coloured Turkish travertine stone with no veining. The floor heating is just one of the many devices that make the residence smartly domotic and high-tech.

The architect chose to optimise the overall dimensions, thinking of life on the surface of the water, and designed and built large pillows and cupboards that serve as backdrops to separate functions and spaces, such as the one in the living room, which also incorporates the fireplace and where the Absolu and Sherazade sofas by EDRA stand out like solos in an orchestra, in front of a refined GLAS low table. The table and chairs are by BAXTER. The only dark note is the DAYTONA console table.
This shell-like as a soul finds its natural support in the ceilings, on which large ceilings treated with silver leaf are carved to reflect the light and mark the roundness of the entire project.

The intwine of reflections and transparencies underlines the importance of light in the design philosophy, as demonstrated by the use of Swiss SKY FRAME floor-to-ceiling windows to unify, rather than separate, the living room with the terrace embellished with RODA furnishings, in a seamless dialogue.

The impression of touching the pine trees with a finger continues in the main bathroom, where the high quality finishings of the RITMONIO satin brass tapware, the dark grey stone embracing the bathtub are found in the decorative frieze cut like an owl's claw, and the Edoné furniture all stand out. A sartorial work that demands attention to every detail and vibrates in the golden thread of the wallpaper that completes the interior. The preciousness of the materials returns in the bathroom adjoining the master bedroom, a room with a more rigorous and masculine mood whose surfaces are highlighted horizontally.

In the night area the volumes dominate more than the furnishings, contained in the dividing paneling, and the suite soul of the Roman residence immediately emerges: the backdrop with its porthole mirror, the refinement of the only piece of furniture, Scrigno by FRATELLI CAMPANA for Edra, and the white and beige underlining the luminosity - emphasized even more by the SHUCO fixtures - of a room with deliberately small and intimate dimensions.
