The estate 'Roggebotstaete' is the former tree nursery of The Netherlands' reclaimed 'Flevoland'. On this estate, a demand for a visitor's centre was set out. The center had to be the starting point for exploring the estate. The challenge set was to not only use the existing material on the estate for construction, but also for the daily use of the building, its energy and its food. This meant a very low-tech approach in which the taboo of comfort was broken. How simple can life be?
This was the starting point of an integral design process, in which all stakeholders had to let go of their logic and preassumptions.
