A new chapter unfolds in the heart of Amsterdam’s historic Canal District with the debut of Rosewood Amsterdam. Opened May 1st, 2025, this exceptional retreat marks the transformation of the former Palace of Justice into a sanctuary of modern elegance. Appointed by Rosewood Hotels & Resorts and CTF Amsterdam B.V., Studio Piet Boon was entrusted with the interiors of 134 uniquely designed rooms and suites, as well as all public spaces — including an Asaya Spa — with the exception of the restaurant Eeuwen and the bar Advocatuur.
Overlooking the iconic Prinsengracht, part of Amsterdam’s UNESCO-listed canals, the hotel offers a seamless blend of past and present. Designed as a welcoming meeting place for visitors and locals alike, Rosewood Amsterdam invites guests into a world where history, craftsmanship, and contemporary Dutch spirit converge.
After a decade of thoughtful, design-led restoration, this 17th-century landmark enters a new era. Design - A sense of place, reimagined
Guided by the Rosewood philosophy of A Sense of Place, the design by Studio Piet Boon reinterprets the monumental heritage of the Palace of Justice through a contemporary lens. Every detail preserves the building’s original character and Dutch identity, while introducing layers of serene, understated luxury inspired by the vibrant energy of modern Amsterdam.
Historic features — such as pleated fabric headboards recalling judicial robes, painted woodgrain doors, and original stone flooring — are thoughtfully juxtaposed with contemporary interventions like bronze accents, mirrored bathroom enclosures, and refined natural materials.
The spatial experience embraces the building’s complexity: long corridors curve around serene courtyards, rooms vary dramatically in size, shape, and character. Five signature Houses — among the largest suites in the city — offer residential-style luxury, each telling its own story. Among them, Huis 020 celebrates Dutch transparency and artistry, inviting the outside world in through expansive canal-facing windows.
Natural tones — soft greys, inky blues, and warm neutrals — reflect the ever-changing Amsterdam sky, while a tactile palette of stone, wood, and textiles adds depth and quiet richness. At every turn, the design encourages guests to slow down, observe, and feel truly at home.
Art - A living gallery of Dutch excellence
With nearly 1,000 curated artworks, Rosewood Amsterdam brings the city’s cultural spirit vividly to life. Art is not confined to galleries here — it is woven into the guest experience through a thoughtfully layered collection spanning monumental sculptures, site-specific installations, and playful interventions.
The art program is built around four themes:
Re-Masters, featuring contemporary reinterpretations of Dutch masters by artists such as Viviane Sassen and Maaike Schoorel
Innovative Media, showcasing digital works developed in collaboration with Amsterdam’s Nxt Museum
