Back in October 2007, when Sands Capital Management was a small investment firm occupying 10,000 ft² of space, Gensler designed their space to provide flexibility and an upscale look to assist in the growth of the company. They installed one Classic 51 wall that was simply 20’ x 10’ to divide their conference room and allow for multiple functions at the same time.

Fast forward to 2016. Sands has grown to become a major international investment firm with significant assets under its management. They leased 80,000 ft² on 4 floors across the street from their initial lease. Sands selected OTJ Architects from Washington, DC to design their new trophy space alongside the Potomac River with views of the U. S. Capitol and other Washington, DC monuments.

"The OTJ team established a philosophy that stated the needs of Sands as connection, collaboration, with both quiet areas and focus areas. To again provide flexibility, OTJ designed their conference center to include two 25’ x 12’ Classic NRC walls which help with reverberation in this glassed space.

The selection of Skyfold was an easy decision for a client who had Skyfold for 10 years – they wanted to continue using Skyfold products for their newly designed flexible expanded meeting space” said Ania Leeson, Partner and Studio Director at OTJ. The design uses clean, sleek lines with classic materials that provide an inviting experience for investors and staff.
