<Sea of Hope (Korean: 바라던 바다)> is an Korean reality JTBC TV program (producer : Kwangjong SONG) in which K-POP stars and famous actors run live bars and provide their own music and cuisine to visitors. <Sea of Hope> has three meanings: SEA (sea), BAR (bar) and WISH (hope). The guests spend the most special day with the cool sea, music, and delicious cuisine they longed for away from everyday life.

The TV program was aired from the end of June to mid-September in 2021, and it will be used as a resting and community space for the residents in the future.
The design of the building started from concerns about sustainability, how to capture the beautiful nature, and how to express the beautiful colors of nature.

The building of <Sea of Hope> is a live bar & pavilion and it is located on Heunghwan-ri Beach in Pohang, Korea, where there is a mysterious and beautiful sea. The space of the building is largely divided into a <live bar> space of 20㎡ and an open terrace space of 20㎡.

The <Live Bar> space is a space for cooking and preparing food, and the terrace space is a transition space for customers to place an order in the “bar” space.

Although the length is about 7m, through the colored glass of the terrace roof and the moss landscaping, visitors can have a different experience and meet the bartenders who are actors and K-Pop stars in this program.

First, the architect tried to include the concept of a car scene that can be seen, felt and enjoyed by borrowing the scenery of nature. On the beach between the building and the sea, K-Pop singers perform street performances, and the sandy beach becomes the visitor's seat. The building is constituted as a frame of a canvas that captures this beautiful nature, the sea, and the performers and visitors.

The roof part of the terrace space uses glass to which chameleon dichroic film (3M Radiant Light Films) is applied, creating a performance of light that expresses the beautiful colors of the sea and sky in Pohang in a special and mysterious way. The overall spectral color changes according to the change of various viewing angles and angles, which changes with time and light intensity. As a result, the building contains various colors of nature, from the beautiful color of the clear sky to the color of the sunset, and sometimes expresses it like a lighthouse. In this way, the mystery of this pavilion is created. In addition, the moss landscaping on the floor of the terrace and the various lights falling on the sand of the beach create a unique sense of space and sense of place in the building.

Since the main broadcasting concept of <Sea of Hope> was a bar that considers sustainability, there was active technical support from POSCO Group.
( Technical support : POSCO, INNOVILT, POSCO C&C / Construction : MBK, construction PM: Seokyoung construction ). An eco-friendly Posco steel with excellent material recycling rate and strength was constructed, including the foundation, structure, exterior wall, and interior wall finish. Since the target site is a beach, PosMAC, a high-corrosion-resistant alloy-plated steel sheet, is used as the main frame, and high-resolution wood-patterned steel sheet Infineli PosART is applied to the exterior and interior materials to create a wooden atmosphere for the beach bar. This is the intention of the architectural design that reflects the eco-friendliness of the broadcasting program as much as possible by printing natural materials on iron without damaging nature such as logging or marble mining when constructing a building.
In addition, the solar roof module integrated with the roof is installed, and about 35% of power consumption, such as home appliances and interior and exterior lighting, is replaced with solar energy. (Daily power consumption: 28.78 kW, daily solar power generation: 10.08 kW)

Pohang Beach with beautiful sea, sky and waves. And <Sea of Hope>…
This pavilion, designed as a healing space of this mysterious and beautiful sea, will continue to be broadcast in the future.

As a new attraction in this place, a beautiful sea pavilion, it will be used as a resting space for local residents.
