Southwark Victorian Schools

John Pardey Architects as Architects

Comprising a large percentage of the country’s primary school buildings, the Victorian school remains a dominant and lasting typology that has become integral to the Country’s historical and cultural heritage. However, the continued use of these out-of-date school buildings is hindering the successful delivery of today’s national curriculum.

In 2005, JPA was commissioned to look at Southwark’s Victorian school stock to identify the existing problems and qualities that are common to Victorian schools and to explore potential design solutions that could unlock the latent potential of these antiquated structures.
