Atelier Kempe Thill has recently won the invited international competition for the transformation of Antwerp’s former 19th century concert hall “De Harmonie” into a “space of silence”. The building will be used as a non-religious contemplative centre for celebrations of important moments in life and individual reflection. The building will be carefully restored to bring back the historic glory of the house. Missing historical building parts and ornaments will be replaced by new elements in a contemporary interpretation. Various technical improvements will be realized to adapt the building to new low-energy, climate and acoustical standards. Part of the project is de sensitive re-design of the surrounding historic park. Paul Deroose will be the responsible landscape architect.
