The Corleck

The Corleck

Kearns Mancini as Architects

For over 25 years, KMAI has worked with the Ireland Park Foundation (IPF) on the redevelopment of Eireann Quay which includes Ireland Park and subsequent restoration and redevelopment work on the heritage Canada Maltings administrative offices.

It started with the award-winning design of Ireland Park which honours the Irish immigrants who fled during the Great Famine in 1847 to arrive in Toronto and memorializes the thousands who lost their lives either in the sea passage or upon arrival.

Ireland Park has served as a catalyst for the redevelopment Eireann Quay – leading the first steps in the redevelopment of the overall Canada Maltings site and adjacent parkland.

KMAI is currently working on the design for a cultural and community centre adaptive renovation of the former administrative building for the Canada Malting Company.

The centre, renamed “The Corleck”, is a 9,600 sq ft., two and a half storey brick early modernist/deco heritage building that will be restored to provide multi-use event space with conference rooms and office space for the Canada Ireland Foundation. Its goal is to provide a much-needed community hub, showcasing multiple cultural venues as well as integrating its site design and framework to the overall development of the 1.8 ha Eireann Quay redevelopment site.

The Corleck will act as a front door to the City for passengers arriving in Toronto via Billy Bishop airport. It is one of six new projects to be developed on the existing grounds of the Eireann Quay neighbourhood. These projects involve various public agencies, including City of Toronto and Waterfront Toronto working together to improve the public realm of this neighbourhood.
