The brief for this world class development ‘The Gathering Place’ calls for a building that will work at many scales within the city – as a regional centre, as a social and spiritual gateway to the city, as a landmark and beacon of hope within the revitalised heart of Parramatta, and as a living, breathing organism that is welcoming to all.

At a high level, The Gathering Place is designed to interweave the architecture of the building with an expression of Christian faith, embodying the values and vision of Parramatta Mission, and also celebrating the unique heritage of the Leigh Memorial Church. At a micro level, it will become an oasis in the city – a place of hope, support, inclusivity, nourishment, reflection, peace and calm, and offer sanctuary to the community. 

Our vision for The Gathering Place is to express these values and ambitions in a bold and sculptural new building, that mediates between the historic church and the large-scale 21st century towers. We see the Gathering Place as a living piece of art that speaks directly to the community.
