We are often swept up in the vortex of modern life, chasing status and productivity while unintentionally overlooking the quiet, grounding moments that give life its meaning. The Octopus House is conceived as a symbolic project that celebrates the seamless convergence of living and working environments. Comprising a residence, retail shop, creative studio, and livestream room, it aims to harmonize the two essential dimensions of contemporary life—living and working—reflecting the growing global shift toward multifunctional lifestyles.
Private rooms, workspaces, and shared living zones are thoughtfully distributed across
different floors according to the owners’ needs, ensuring both independence and optimal functionality for each program. Vertical circulation combines an elevator and staircase, supported by a carefully planned ventilation strategy that maintains a cool, airy, and consistently comfortable interior.
Given the building’s west-facing orientation—exposed to intense sunlight and heat—the façade design required particular attention. A composition of solids and voids is meticulously arranged to welcome natural light while effectively moderating thermal gain. The architectural expression prioritizes a harmonious relationship with nature. Layers of greenery interwoven with thermally modified wood on the façade create a visually calming presence. Beyond their aesthetic impact, these planted zones contribute to air purification and foster a lifestyle that remains grounded and connected to the natural environment.
The Octopus House ultimately transcends the conventional notion of a home. More than a place to reside or work, it stands as an emblem of thoughtful integration between nature, function, and personal expression. The project embodies the qualities of an urban sanctuary—an environment that nurtures the soul through intentional pauses, where design, materials, and spatial composition have the capacity to perceive, reflect, and gently soothe human emotion.
