The Middle School courtyard at Toorak College in Mt Eliza was under used and provided poor connection between the library and surrounding classrooms.
Genus approached the design options for this space with the view to provide a practical and flexible outdoor classroom, opportunities for an outdoor kitchen, improved pathways through the area and provision of seating and quiet study zones.
Working alongside the construction team at Programmed Property Services, Genus has created a new courtyard for students and the broader school community. An extension to existing decking accommodates teaching or extra-curricular events, level changes throughout the courtyard are addressed with sloping exposed aggregate pavement, and concrete and timber bench seating allows improved use by students.
