Unique

Unique, a mixed-use building off the northern edge of La Carolina park, is designed by Carlos Zapata as a sort of urban sculpture, reconsidering the typical composition of vertical buildings. For example, the three-story open-air communal area is located at the midpoint of the building, creating a building that feels more porous and light, and also integrates landscaping that relates to the neighboring park.

The terraces of the building are landscaped with native trees and plants, giving a sense of continuity with La Carolina Park. The lobby will feature a specially commissioned large scale work from a local artist. In the near future, it will have easy access to the Quito Metro, with a key station located a few steps from the building, increasing its accessibility to and from the different sectors of the city.

The project follows an eco-efficiency matrix which dictates the conscious use of materials, construction systems, and technical design, which are developed to generate the least possible impact when it comes to the use of non renewable resources (electrical energy saving, use of potable water, collecting and reusing rainwater, water treatment, irrigation systems, etc), demonstrating commitment to environmental responsibility.
