Urban Woods Delft: Innovative Roof Access in Timber Construction
The Urban Woods Delft brings together timber construction, architecture and a green living environment. Dutch Roof Design contributed to the design with an integrated electric roof access solution leading to the green rooftop garden.

At a height of 31 metres, above a distinctive timber construction project in Delft, our Three Wall Box creates a direct connection between the building and the green rooftop terrace.

The Urban Woods Delft consists of 102 apartments and was developed with a strong vision for sustainable and future-oriented construction. Urban Climate Architects, led by Tim Vermeend, designed the building with timber as its primary construction material. The use of CLT and other circular materials forms the basis of the building, while the green roofs by The Urban Jungle Project provide space for biodiversity and residents.

A Glass Roof Access
For The Urban Woods, we recommended the Three Wall Box by Glazing Vision. It has an impressive external dimension of 2,500 × 2,400 mm. The roof access is integrated between three existing walls, making the structure part of the design of the rooftop terrace.

The sliding glass section opens electrically over the fixed section, providing a clear opening of up to 50%. This creates comfortable access to the rooftop terrace.

Where Architecture and Greenery Meet
What makes The Urban Woods special is the way architecture, timber construction and greenery come together. The design by Urban Climate Architects, the green roofs by The Urban Jungle Project and the glass roof access form a cohesive whole.

With the design of the Three Wall Box, we bring the outdoors literally inside. The minimal framework allows for maximum daylight, creating an open connection between the interior and the green rooftop terrace.

A New Way of Living
The Urban Woods Delft offers a new approach to urban living. Residents have their own homes, complemented by shared spaces and facilities that make everyday life easier and more versatile. The homes are flexible and can be adapted to changing living needs.

The surrounding environment is also part of the living concept. Green roofs, terraces and communal spaces bring nature and social interaction closer to home. This creates a living environment where space is used efficiently without compromising on comfort and quality of life.

For Dutch Roof Design, this is a particularly meaningful project. By becoming involved early in the design process, we ensure that a solution is not only aesthetically pleasing, but also technically sound and feasible to realise. This means the roof access is not a standalone technical element, but an integrated part of the design that provides optimal daylight and a strong connection between indoors and outdoors.
