The Kellerei Bozen is one of the most prominent wine cooperatives in South Tyrol and represents a landmark project in contemporary winery architecture. The building is largely embedded in the landscape and partially hidden beneath the vineyards, with a sculptural presence defined by its iconic façade.
The architectural concept is characterized by a double-skin façade system that wraps around the central building volume on three sides. The outer layer consists of a perforated metal structure inspired by the form of vine leaves, creating a distinctive visual identity while functioning as sun protection and shading element. Behind this layer, a fully glazed façade opens the building towards the surrounding landscape, offering panoramic views over the valley of Bolzano.
Metall Ritten was responsible for the execution of the structural steel framework, the perforated metal façade, and the glass façade system. The project required the integration of large-scale steel structures with complex façade geometry, including organically shaped elements and high glass elevations.
A key technical challenge was the combination of a sculptural steel “vine leaf” structure with a high-performance glass envelope, ensuring both architectural expression and functional climate performance.
