Lacroix Chessex engraves concrete with wooden formwork in local traditional pattern

From afar the Chevrens Center, located on the edge of the town of Anières, Switzerland, looks like it is clad in local tradition of the area with a wooden facade. But upon closer inspection the wooden cladding is imprinted in the concrete.

The center functions as a boarding school for adolescents aged 14 to 18. Lacroix Chessex distributed the program across two volumes placed around a central courtyard.

The three level, two-part, volume houses the administration below and two upper levels with living space for the kids and supervisory staff. This part is defined by the engraved concrete.

The second lower volume is designated for education. This building has a smooth concrete surface and pitched roof.

The interiors are kept simple with wooden ceilings and concrete floors.
