Situated on a sunlit clearing with sweeping views of the Dolomites, the Ansitz Velseck Residence Hotel is a place that breathes history while providing space for the present. The ensemble revolves around a historic manor, meticulously preserved, while the hotel’s extension has been executed with great restraint. The aim was not to create rupture, but to continue the story of the site—with a refined sensitivity to scale, materiality, and landscape.

The new guest rooms and wellness area have been gently integrated into a slope, with the existing grassy surface only slightly raised to preserve the natural topography as much as possible. In this way, the new elements blend harmoniously into the landscape and enter into a subtle dialogue with the historic buildings via delicate walkways. The main house, service buildings, and chapel remain untouched, while a newly added tower of untreated wood and transparent lightness complements the ensemble. This vertical accent serves not only as a landmark but also as a private retreat with panoramic views of the Dolomites.

Inside, a new spatial experience unfolds: sun-filled dining halls, a carefully reinterpreted restaurant, and the wellness area with a swimming pool create spaces for pause and reflection. Large windows invite the mountains, sky, and surrounding nature into the interior without overwhelming it—the architecture serves as a gentle frame for experiencing the landscape.

The choice of materials is deliberately honest and timeless: larch wood that matures with the weather, exposed concrete conveying calm and permanence, and glass that offers transparency and connection to the surroundings. The design does not follow transient trends but responds to the character of the place—with restraint, dignity, and foresight.

Ansitz Velseck thus remains a place of continuity, deeply rooted in history yet open to the present. The architecture is subtle yet expressive, conveying a sense of calm, expansiveness, and enduring presence that resonates with all visitors.
