Blue Note São Paulo (jazz concert hall)

Studio ió Arquitetura as Design Project, Interior Design, Lighting Design and Landscaping

Blue Note SP is located on the 2nd floor of a building inside a large avenue in São Paulo. With 800m2 has a lounge with stage, bar and sound / light control, tiring-house, bathrooms, industrial kitchen, foyer, support areas, external balconies, side porch and deck. It has an intimate, sophisticated, theatrical and simple style.

It was a refit. To fulfill the function of concert hall, 90% of the internal walls were demolished; nearly 60% of the reception floor was raised to the level of the rest of the space; existing bathrooms have become a part of the bar; the toilets have been shifted to the left. The toilets were added in numbers, urinals and tubs.

An accessible single toilet, with washroom for the outside balcony and cleaning support area was also added. The space received two dressing rooms with private bathrooms, industrial kitchen, administrative room, staff bathrooms, storage area and raised floors in the lounge of the 03 sofa areas and stage areas.

The existing ramp was demolished and redone with another shape and correct slope to meet accessibility requests by law. To fit the new layout, adjustments to electrical, hydro-sanitary, Fire Department, exhaustsystem, air conditioning, sound, acoustics, metalwork and metal structures were required.

Lounge and side outdoor area, deck, balcony and service corridor. Tumbled building with restrictions on external interventions of: floor exchange or drilling, decharacterization of existing concrete marquee, alteration of the facade, alteration of the roof, among others. Rectangular single storey building, inside one of the most famous buildings in the city and overlooking a large avenue.

The main influence was the New York concert halls. The inspiration was to use the dark color of the night, the color of the instruments (brass), the Brazilian wood (which was reused from the floor of the old place), the blue light in contrast to the amber yellow of the sun in the bar and the spot lighting.

The brand's style is already intimate and the project has been further enhanced the result of a sophisticated yet simple environment where the star is the show that happens in the stage. Everything has been designed to make the client feel almost at a private show and experience their emotions to the fullest. Architecture as well as lighting contributed to the feeling of old jazz clubs, hidden underground clubs, clubs from the 70's and 80's.

The lighting project was born with the concept of not lighten up what was not to be illuminated: the tables, so as not to disturb the vision of the show. The lighting has a theatrical concept, with punctual circulations lighting, candles on every table to create a mood and feeling, lighting on bar shelves and counter tops, general bar lighting, technical stage lighting, bathroom lighting and spotlight lighting.

Bathroom with linear light on round mirrors illuminating the face evenly, RGB lighting on the external pillars, indirectly lit sconces in the bathroom circulation and dressing room entrance, stronger foyer lighting for easy operation, airtight kitchen lighting and functional in the technical and operating spaces.

For the salon, the choice was a light source with a closed beam to give a theatrical effect, lighting only the circulations and with glare control so they don´t disturb the vision of the show.
