The building for the District Water Board is situated on the monumental historic estate Bouvigne with castle, gate building and chapel in Breda. The design in which new and old meet each other shows an ensemble of conservation and innovation. All parts of the program, offices, laboratories, meeting rooms and restaurant are incorporated in the design in an effective gesture.

The representative and timeless modular office building inserts itself in a natural, appropriate and monumental way in the landscape and divides the estate in two green landscape rooms. On the vista from the castle along the gate building, a surviyable inviting entrance hall has been made. This hall connects the two landscape rooms again. The human scale and transparency of the council determine the basis of the concept. The layered facade, the location and the configuration of the work places are designed in such a way that the connection with the green surroundings is always secured and the building feels like a house to work in. By using the arcade as an architectural means it pushes the office program more to the background and strengthens the neutral and timeless radiance of the building.

The sober and subtle detailing of the building determines the architecture and connects to the ambition of the client. Flexibility, use of high quality materials, sustainability and spaciousness provide the building the envisioned quality. The interior and furnishing are designed within the commission and add up to the building to a high level, comfortable and representative working area and residence.

The building is functional and efficient: 280 flexible working places are shared by 340 employees. Several innovative office concepts have been modulated in the modern and contemporary interior. The practical and functional working places in the laboratories and offices are neutral and user friendly. Colors are quiet with a series of atmospheres and interaction is an important issue.
