Casa Ammentos: Between tradition and new narratives

Casa Ammentos is located in a building from the 1930s and follows a simple, linear layout: four rooms arranged around a central entrance which the project preserves without major changes. The pink entrance is the focal point of the home. Four double doors connect the main rooms turning a simple entryway into a functional and visually striking element.

The name "Ammentos", a Sardinian word meaning "memories", reflects the spirit of the project. Objects throughout the home become small reminders of people, places and origins blending the owner's Sardinian roots with a Milanese aesthetic.

Original features have been preserved as valuable traces: the Italian herringbone parquet in the bedroom, the decorative cement tiles in the living room and the brick-colored tiles in the kitchen allowing the marks of time to become part of the house's historical value.

The living room is designed as a social space. The main feature of the room is a semi-circular mirror that visually doubles the perception of the space. The sofa creates a dialogue between old and contemporary design. Steel shelves complement the solid structure of a 1960s sideboard and display carefully chosen objects such as "Su Frascu," a traditional Sardinian terracotta flask made by the ceramist Walter Usai. The chairs, crafted from curved cherry wood and rattan, were sourced from antique markets along with the oval table which has been carefully restored and repainted.

The kitchen is custom-made and follows the shape of the room. Steel is the main material softened by a pastel blue reminiscent of traditional kitchens. Alvar Aalto's wall lamps blend with the shelves while the round table and bright red chairs add a playful contrast to the softer tones of the room.

In the bathroom, soft colors and tiles reflect natural light. The window in the shower is framed with a custom-made casing that recalls the house's original doors. Custom furniture and vintage fixtures complete the room with consistency and respect for the home's character.

In the bedroom, full-height curtains cover the wardrobes keeping the space looking tidy and organized. Foldable bedside tables adapt to different daily needs. A vanity corner provides extra function without taking up space and adds a refined detail. Above the bed, a Sardinian tapestry made by the "Su Trobasciu" lab in Mogoro becomes the centerpiece of the room. In traditional rugs, the tulip symbolizes femininity and birth recalling the womb and the cycles of life. Woven by women, it protects the home and turns thread into memory.
