Casa Oriente is located in the municipality of La Calera, within the Macadamia del Río residential community. Its name comes from the orientation of the lot within the development relative to the sun's path and the main views. To the east lie both the sunrise and the mountain on the other side of the Teusacá River.
The commission came from a young family, Angélica and Diego, who dreamed of a place to watch their two daughters grow up with the advantages of country living near the city of Bogotá. Respect for the site, its native vegetation, and a concern for thermal comfort are the main strengths of Casa Oriente. For this reason, we made one of the native trees the central axis around which the house develops, aware that trees structure a place and give it an image of enduring life.
The relationship with the surrounding nature was based on creating a house built from courtyards, gardens, and lookout points — spaces of transitional experience between the architecture, the distant landscape, and the immediate one.
Finally, solar exposure, the house's thermal comfort, and energy savings in heating systems led to designing and building with insulating materials and double walls on the façades.
