Casa BL is tucked away within an intimate and shaded courtyard in Pavia. The spaces of the eighteenth-century apartment have been rethought and carefully designed to make the most of its surfaces and heights. The living area houses a sculptural block that integrates the kitchen, staircase, and mezzanine, as well as various storage compartments.

An architecture within architecture, it articulates the living space like a theatrical scene, defining its different zones: the lowered, intimate entrance and reading corner, the dining and conversation area, and the home office station, which overlooks the space below.

The definition of “space” as the delineation of a distinct and atmospheric environment plays a predominant role in the project. In the master en suite bathroom, a barrel-vaulted ceiling encloses a rigorous and elegant room where the large arched mirror accentuates the presence of the monolithic sink, which, almost like a sacred presence, dominates the center of the space.

Here, as throughout the apartment, the warm tones of clays and earthen materials blend together, forming a background for the owners’ art collection. The result is an intimate and warm atmosphere that characterizes the everyday living spaces.
