Collaborated with a local team of passionate craftsmen, The Collective Arc celebrates today’s technological developments while showcasing the structural integrity and innovative possibilities of timber as part of Indonesia’s proud architectural heritage.
Through weaving techniques presented as an art form, the installation highlights the capabilities of timber’s processing methods and material exploration. Using three simple architectural gestures — extruding, lifting, and puncturing — the installation is able to juxtapose both a seminar and a public installation program within the same space.
The act of lifting creates a separation between the two programs, while naturally forming amphitheater-style seating stairs for seminar sessions. In addition, a cantilevered box is inserted into the volume to create differentiation between the seminar speaker platform and the audience, while also accentuating the overall form of the installation.
