Two homes with the soul of one . A joint family home , with a design language of uncluttered opulence .
CONTEXT :
Located in a premium residential area in Belgaum , Karnataka , the design brief given by the client suggest a single looking structure split into two homes for two brothers yet connected by bridges at the entrances and in between , to allow a sense of a joint family home yet give each unit its own individuality. The brief also suggested the house carried an opulent and well curated sense of space making . Each house reflects the persona of the user and offers a diverse experience moving from one home to the other.
PLANNING:
The entrance is approached through patches of landscape on either sides .Each house is a duplex of 4 bedrooms , private lounges in each home with an extended terrace area . The stilt becomes a car park area and houses the servant's quarters . While each house has a separate entry , a bridge connects the two homes providing ease of access to a single lift catering the two homes. The connecting bridge also becomes a transition space between the two homes .
FACADE:
The homes , though split in between , are unified by the bridges and a large floating Parasol roof that wings the whole span of the building ,cladded with fiber cement planks coated in a wooden finish . The white mint stone cladding , and the use of wooden screens for the private terrace areas , give the house a tropical modern appeal . The wooden screens and the defined horizontal lines of the structure lighten the presence of the large building . The structure is layered spatially and provided with pergolas to created a play of light and shadow and add to the dynamism of the facade . The structure , with all its earthy details stands in harmony with its tropical surroundings.
INTERIORS:
The interior designing follows a mid-century modern character , while suggesting art deco elements in form of chevron floors and intricately detailed wooden screens and wall paneling . One of the homes flaunts a book matched carrara stone , while the other is sprawled with a book matched Vietnamese marble , with finely detailed woodwork , splashes of embedded metals and well curated furniture and decor . The house is rich in featuring fine craftsmanship by the carpenters , detailing out each component composed in wood and metal bringing out the finesse in the designing .Most furniture elements are designed for aesthetics as well as functionality . A neutral palette plays throughout the house with traces of accented color in furniture and upholstery . contrasting materials yet in harmony add a luxurious character to the spaces . Metal inlays of brass and copper in suggestive places add an art deco character to the decor of the spaces. The bedrooms reflect the personality of its users yet adhering to a defined guideline . Master bedrooms are more suggestive of feel of luxury , with a composition of wood and marble for the floors and detailed woodwork and premium paint finishes on solid surfaces , the children’s rooms have a playful yet mature sense of space . The house is abundant in details , like latticed sliding doors , consoles that open out to multiple uses , dividing screens opening out to private areas . Both homes have a private lounge area connected with semi enclosed terrace , catering to the clients social requirements . A special attention has been given to the lighting design in order to highlight each area by its use .
