The renovation project of a 1960s duplex transforms a sad and grey dwelling into a house full of joy and light.

Sometimes it is difficult to see the full potential of a project. It took a lot of work and several attempts until we managed to find the key that opened the doors to this renovation project.

The old distribution of the flat maintained a large number of differentiated spaces. Small and grey, they were not adapted to the modern life that the new residents wanted. After a lot of work, we decided for a risky transformation in which, by changing the layout of the house, we could completely redistribute the spaces and further enhance its duplex status.

We increased the double height in a brighter space with more light. We design continuous spaces divided by the furniture, maintaining their functionality but visually connected. In this way we increase the sensation of space and the entry of light at all times.

The main living areas, living room and kitchen are located on the lower level. The suite, the dressing room and its own living area are located in the more private upper part. Its condition of being a house with two orientations, East-West, allowed us to play with the sloping roof as a reflective panel. In the late afternoon the roof reflects light from the west into the dining area and kitchen. In this way we were able to take advantage of all the natural light to illuminate the main spaces on the ground floor until late in the evening.

The renovation project converts all the rooms into exteriors with natural lighting and ventilation, designing a healthy and wellness architecture. The insulation is reinforced throughout the house, making it a more efficient construction, with lower energy consumption, less environmental impact and optimising comfort.

The ground floor
The lower floor renews its structure to become a continuous differentiated space. The living room, the double-height dining room and the kitchen share the same space, differentiating their characteristics.

The lounge has a lower height that invites you to relax and remain seated and quiet. A reading and work area is planned for long days of confinement -forced or not-. The lighting is soft and diffused in a way that reinforces the tranquil character of the room.

The dining room is the social heart of the house. Its owners, regulars at parties and family gatherings, use this double-height space to spend great moments with those closest to them. An impressive space in contact with the terrace to extend the interior dining room to the outside..

The kitchen shares this space in a more reserved way. Elegant and functional, the island serves as an informal table for breakfast and snacks. A kitchen that takes care of the aesthetics but is designed to suit the cooking style of its users. A place to chat with friends while cooking.

The upper floor
The duplex renovation project designs the upper floor as a private flat. All the space is divided into a suite, its huge dressing room, the living room and the spa-bathroom.

The bathroom takes advantage of its layout below deck to create a simple, quiet and minimalist space. It is divided into two areas of washbasin and toilet and shower and bathtub. Continuous from each other, they are separated by a transparent partition that multiplies the space and filters natural light.

The living room is designed to enjoy the upper terrace while providing a space for reading and resting. An open space that stands out for its warmth and is independent from the others thanks to its composition. The suite is able to become independent by means of a partition of mirrored panelling hidden in the wall.

The kilometric walking closet is the necessary to conveniently store all the clothing and shoe collections of its lucky owners. Each shelf, drawer and its position has been studied according to what it should hold.

The renovation project converts all the rooms into exteriors with natural lighting and ventilation, designing a healthy and wellness architecture.
