Facing Saint Peter

Angelo Luigi Tartaglia as Architects

Beyond the glass is Rome, one of the songs and postcards. There is the atmosphere and the irresistible charm of the capital, there is its urban rhythm and then there are the palaces. The context of the setting of this house is the Umbertine quarter of Prati, near the Vatican. The planimetric is rigid as almost all the houses in this area: entrance, long corridor that ends with the kitchen and the bedroom. In one of these buildings Colavita family lives, better known, especially in the US, as the "lords of the olive oil".

The project idea stems from the desire to create a home that reflects the habits of the owners, devoted to the art of hospitality. The distribution is characterized by fluid open spaces that overturn the original plan, with a clear division between the living and the night areas. Three portals full height characterize the balanced rhythm among solid and void spaces of the house. The stained glass, inserted in the thickness of the portals, as semi-transparent diaphragms, filter the visually among the various areas of the living. The intent was to create a house that would encourage sharing and at the same time it would inspire a desire for quiet intimacy.

The reference to classicism, much wanted by the owners, has been interpreted by two horizontal strip that develop on most surfaces, creating the leitmotiv of the entire house. On the strips is designed a monogram combining the initials of the surnames of the clients and the architect. Clever details that always characterize the Tartaglia architect work , in which the contemporary approach transcends the modern and the sign is emphasized by a blend of art and classical inspiration.
