SUSTAINABILITY
The target was to build the most energy efficient, secure and sustainable multitenant data center in Finland. The client - Telia Finland Oyj is part of international Telia Company - offers cloud platforms and networks services, besides being a big mobile network operator.
Data Center is situated in urban environment - in North-West Helsinki.
Datacenter is water cooled and all heat energy is recycled in full scale in district heating.
Normally - when data center is far from urban areas - all heat energyis lost when it's pumped into sea or is freely allowed to spread into outside air.
BUILDING
Gross area 34 000m2, volume 225 000m3
The form of the building is a simple rectangle box, layout is optimized to IT production - partly because of the small plot had to be fully utilized.
The emergency cooling system is partly exposed at roof level, otherwise MEP-technology is hidden inside the building - only a row of exhaust pipes is visible above eaves.
The facades are simple and clean, only exception is the entrance "recess – the lower part of the facade is cladded with printed dark grey polymer composite panels – printing consists of city maps from the whole world. The upper part is cladded with anodized perforated profiled aluminium plates.
The metal clad main street facade is backlighted, the otherwise monotonous cladding has been broken on all facades with several diagonal rgb-light channels.
INTERIOR
The customer wanted the interior of the lobbies and office space to reflect the brand image - the playful look, combined with the need for data center security and integrity, and the creation of a comfortable working environment and customer experience was an interesting challenge for the designer..
