This project involves the reconstruction of two traditional cottages-cells (cell from the word keli in Greek) built before 1955, which were unified to create a small residence while preserving their distinct character and historical essence. The architectural approach maintained the difference in levels, both in the roofs and the interior floors, emphasizing the original scale and identity of the two separate structures despite their internal connection.

The building was coated with earthy-toned plaster, reminiscent of soil, to ensure its seamless integration into the natural landscape. This approach aligns with the traditional aesthetic of traditional cells, which were either constructed from stone or plastered in brownish hues. The low perimeter wall of the veranda was rebuilt using dry stone, retaining its characteristic semicircular shape, a reference to the courtyards of old cells.

The interior was redesigned with a focus on functionality and simplicity, featuring a corner seating area, a kitchen, a sleeping space, wardrobes, and a bathroom. The difference in floor levels creates a natural separation between communal and private areas. On the entrance level the living room and kitchen are located, while the elevated level accommodates the sleeping area and wardrobes. The raised bed base serves a dual purpose, acting as a backrest for the living area while also providing additional storage space to meet the needs of the residence.

Most furniture is built-in, minimizing the presence of movable items. Carefully designed wall niches offer practical storage solutions, making the most of the limited space. In the bathroom, three small skylights allow ample natural light to flood the space, enhancing both its functionality and aesthetic appeal.

The outdoor courtyard, protected from the Cycladic winds, was designed as a space for relaxation and enjoyment of the view. It includes a large built-in dining area with a built-in sofa, an outdoor kitchen, and a daybed oriented toward the view of Chora. Shading is provided by a pergola made of natural chestnut wood and reed, creating a cool and inviting atmosphere, ideal for outdoor living.
