Rojkind Arquitectos as Architects

The space favors encounters, exchanges, interactions and relationships. The street level houses fifty three vending stalls configured in an organic and fluid arrangement, which reinterprets the grid of the traditional market. The two upper levels house a couple of restaurants and roof deck. The project also includes and open air space surrounded by a fully functional vertical vegetable garden.

Conceived as a space to house expressions of the rich contemporary and Mexican gastronomic culture, Mercado Roma gives special emphasis to the sense of community and collaboration. Designed by Rojkind Arquitectos and conceptualized by Cadena + Asoc. Concept Design, the space is created to gather selected partners and vendors so they can offer their best products. The space is also designed to favor encounters, exchanges, interactions and relationships making the experience a more meaningful one.


“Mercado Roma is meant to be a catalyzer and detonator to the community. The market seeks to integrate local efforts and launch them from a contemporary platform rooted in cultural traditions and the collective histor y of a nation”. Ignacio Cadena. This project is the result of a strong collaborative process that merges multiple fields of design: architecture, engineering, industrial and graphic design, illustrators among others. An industrial space, formerly occupied by the wellknown Bar Leon, in Colonia Roma, has been repurposed for this project. The street level houses fifty three vending stalls configured in an organic and fluid arrangement, which reinterprets the grid of the traditional market. The two upper levels house a couple of restaurants and roof deck. The project also includes and open air space surrounded by a fully functional vertical vegetable garden, from which fresh produce will be har vest to then be sold at the market, thus completing the cycle of production-distribution-retail.

Mercado Roma was created through the imagination, ideas and proposals of the Sacal Choen Brothers in which through their travels around the world visited toured various gourmet markets in cities such as New York, Berlin and around Spain finally moved this concept to Mexico.

Mercado Roma is a reference for gastronomic culinary trends and is characterized by a gourmet three-story space. Mercado Roma has made it through his the first year becoming one of the most innovative gastronomic centers in Mexico City.

Mercado Roma was created through the imagination, ideas and proposals of the Sacal Choen Brothers in wich through their travels around the world visited toured various gourmet markets in cities such as New York, Berlin and around Spain, finally moved this concept to Mexico.


The creative project lasted not more than two years inviting many artists, lighting designers and architecs.


Now days, Mercado Roma is a reference for gastronomic culinary trends, is characterized by a gourmet three-story space, located at 225 Queretaro Col. Roma Mexico City, under the baton of Rojkind Arquitectos. Mercado Roma has made it trough his the first year becoming one of the most innovative gastronomic centers in Mexico City.


Throughout this year it has received recognition such as the Food and Travel Mexico, which placed it as one of the top 3 gourmets spaces; Forbes Magazine and Mexico that called the project as "The reinvention of local commerce."

Furniture design project by Emiliano Godoy + Tuux

Emiliano Godoy as Designers

Emiliano Godoy +Tuux proposed a furniture line that is made in teak wood with steel belts in bright orange. The project includes high and low stools, benches and tables. They included inserts in the tables in a darker wood that branded the space with the market identity, to emphasize that these tables did not belong to a specific stall but rather were a communal space to be used freely.

The project includes high and low stools, benches and tables. Materials: FSC certified teak wood and powdered coated steel.


The main objective that was determined for the project was to bring warmth and familiarity to the very strong architectural project developed by Rokjind Arquitectos. The space featured angled and contrasting surfaces that wrap around every stall, generating amazing perspectives and experiences throughout the market. The architects and the client both felt the project needed something that would invite visitors to feel more at home, and which would encourage interaction between strangers and allow groups to be formed everywhere.


We proposed a furniture line that is made in teak wood with steel belts in bright orange, bridging the space between the architectural project and a more familiar and recognizable setting. We included inserts in the tables in a darker wood that branded the space with the market identity, to emphasize that these tables did not belong to a specific stall but rather were a communal space to be used freely.


The project was developed by Emiliano Godoy +Tuux and manufactured in Mexico City using Mexican FSC certified teak.

Cadena + Asociados Concept Design® as Architects

The space brings together select tenants to offer their best products. The designers used a former industrial space where the ground floor houses fifty-three commercial spaces, distributed in fluid organic avenues and sidewalks, reinterpreting traditional market grids. The upper floors house a couple of restaurants, a bar and a terrace.

Conceived as a space to house Mexico’s rich culinary cultural expressions, Mercado Roma makes special emphasis on a sense of community and collaboration. Designed by Rojkind Arquitectos (http://www.rojkindarquitectos.com/) and conceptualized by Cadena + Assoc. Concept Design (http:// www.cadena-asociados.com/), the space brings together select tenants to offer their best products. It is designed to promote encounters, exchanges and relations, making the experience more meaningful.


This project is the result of a highly collaborative process that brings together different design professionals, architects, engineers, graphic designers and illustrators among others.

For this project we used an industrial space located in the northern part of the Roma zone in 225 Querétaro, in what used to be the Bar León. The ground floor will house fifty-three comercial spaces, distributed in fluid organic avenues and sidewalks, reinterpreting traditional market grids.


The upper floors will house a couple of restaurants, a bar and a terrace. The project also has an open space surrounded by a fully functional vertical garden, which can harvest fresh produce to be later exposed for sale, completing the cycle of production- distribution-sales within Mercado Roma.
