In a rural area in Bruchem, JADE architects has been commissioned to design and develop a modern barn house. The plot is part of a small-scale development of 3 connected plots on the site of a former tree nursery.
It is located next to a quiet country road surrounded by lots of greenery. The very spacious building plot offer the possibility to create a nice outdoor space with lots of privacy. This was one of the main starting points for the architectural design.
An ensemble of two equal volumes, placed on the outer edges of the plot, border an intimate inner garden. To reinforce the introverted character of the ensemble, the facades adjacent to the inner garden have a very transparent appearance by providing them with glass and sliding doors over the full 22 meters. The other facades facing the street are more closed and occasionally offer a view of the surroundings.
The house is designed as a "barn house", a volume that fits into the rural area in terms of shape and typology. Due to the robust use of materials, the steel truss construction and the accurate detailing the house has a modern and industrial character.
