On a former campsite is the plan area ' The Nieuwkoopse Eilanden ' realized. The new building plots are spread over a number of headlands between the Nieuwkoopse Plassen and Zuideinderplas.
Building plot 15 is an extra wide plot at the end of one of the headlands an provides a wide view over the lake. The quality of this unique location is fully utilized in the house: the neighboring facades and the roof- and floor surfaces are relatively closed and form a comfortable shell. The front and rear facades on the other hand, are open and offer a wide panorama of the surroundings. Outdoor terraces, protected from wind, rain and too many sun exposure, are created by placing these mainly glass facades inwards and position them at an angle.
The living areas as living, dining and the kitchen are located on the ground floor oriented on the garden and terrace. The glass facade opens to the lake and offers a panorama view. Storage spaces, stairs, toilet and bathroom form a buffer zone between the entrance at the front and the living area in the back of the house. These facilities are clustered in closed boxes: functional, lockable in use and due to privacy, but with visible axes that connect the front and back of the house.
In line with those connections, there is a void created that reinforces the view of the natural surrounding from both the ground floor and the first floor. On the first floor the void forms the central point between the four bedrooms, each located on a beautiful corner of the house provided with large windows.
In terms of experience, the lake can be seen deep into the house while the spaces run from interior to exterior. This also applies to the materials: the neighboring facades, roof and the ground floor are solid surfaces and extend from the inside to the outside. The front and rear façades consist of large glass surfaces where sliding doors give access to the terrace. The facility zone in the interior is designed with a wooden cladding and gives a warm atmosphere in the living area.
