Wooden school building
Often school buildings remain true to traditional architecture and construction methods. Nevertheless, wood construction offers many opportunities for the well-being of children and the sustainability of the environment. This school in Amsterdam therefore explores the potential of wood construction.
Connection
The long ramps in this concept embrace the courtyard and extend the play space to its outer boundaries, seamlessly connecting the street, classrooms and social activities.
Sliding elements
The classrooms in this design are flexibly partitioned by sliding partitions. This is a response to the limited functionality of many current school buildings. This design encourages the use of the building for a variety of purposes. Possibly this flexibility represents the future of design, in which a school building can also function as a community center or other social facility.
