The Dissappearing House

This home for an extended family was carefully fit into the contours of the land; the Cedar trees, Douglas Fir, Hemlock and the native understory of Huckleberry and Salal.

The resultant design yielded an entry walk through the forest at an unfamiliar and memorable level (10’ off the ground) and finished with an on-axis view of a magnificent old cedar tree.  The views were directed north to the long axis of a narrow saltwater channel on which the building is located.  This counter intuitive response ended up creating better, and more distant views, while insuring privacy from the neighbors directly across the channel.

State of the art glass and insulation systems to augment the geothermal heat exchange system assist in heating and cooling the building throughout the year.
