In more recent years, we've come to value outdoor spaces more than ever. At the same time, we understand the fundamental need for a roof that offers shelter. So, what happens when we connect both in a way that makes the boundaries between them almost invisible?

That was our premise in designing these two homes: to take advantage of two adjacent plots and create a family-focused project that unites without imposing. One house was designed for the client and his wife; the other, for the future family of their son. This led to two layout concepts: the “L” and the “C.”

Both share a modular design, the same number of spaces, and a common visual identity. Yet, the configuration of the rear volumes—housing bedrooms and a family room—creates distinct living experiences.

The “C” shape generates micro-environments that offer greater privacy and a sense of discovery, since spaces are gradually revealed.

The “L”, on the other hand, opens toward the garden, allowing for an expansive, social lifestyle where gatherings flow naturally.

In the end, the guiding concept was clear: family. We share an identity, but each of us has our own way of being. The same applies to these houses.

Formally, we drew inspiration from the local architecture to bring character and authenticity to the project. We reinterpreted elements from traditional haciendas in the region, such as porticoes and colonnades, which create shaded areas and soft transitions between indoors and outdoors. 

From Mayan architecture, we took cornices and reliefs, reimagined through latticework that filters light and adds texture. The limestone base, sourced from the site, evokes pre-Hispanic constructions and grounds the project in its context.

To strengthen the connection with nature, we added a central fountain whose soothing sound accompanies everyday life, and a lush garden that acts as a visual and sensory destination. Our goal was for the architecture to dissolve the boundaries between inside and outside—to integrate, not separate.
