Atrium house on the roof

Hidden behind the listed façade, a living and working environment has been created for the client within a protected ensemble area. The entire apartment is oriented towards the new attic atrium, the heart of the apartment.

In keeping with an ancient Roman atrium house, all the living areas, such as the living room, kitchen, and dining room, are grouped around the outdoor area. Another special feature of the attic living space is the two-story library. The exterior is connected to the interior by means of targeted views to the outside and various landmarks in the surrounding area.

The material concept was inspired by English design elements – exposed brickwork meets black steel and oak wood. The clay plaster used regulates humidity, ensures a pleasant indoor climate, and is biodegradable.

In combination with a sustainable cooling and heating system via an air heat pump, energy consumption is minimized and dependence on fossil fuels is reduced. These measures increase living comfort and support climate protection.
