The aim of the project was not to replace the existing structure, but to develop it in a meaningful way. The new extension to the firewall was the key; it conceals most of its height, sets the building back from the property line and creates a sheltered, private garden area.

The existing and the new intertwine without losing their differences. The renovated existing structure tells the story of the house, while the new building volumes contrast this with a clear, contemporary architectural language. This creates an exciting dialogue, precise in design and harmonious in the context of a relaxed single-family housing development.

The extension was designed as a demountable aluminum system that can be completely dismantled and recycled. Wood is the defining material, both in terms of construction and interior design: local oak in various surface textures brings warmth and character. Prefabricated wooden components with cellulose insulation enabled a rapid construction time of just eleven months.

A new side entrance from the street now leads directly into the house and creates a clearly defined, private garden area. Inside, the living space is split-level and opens completely onto the garden. A terrace in front extends the living area outdoors, with steps leading gently down into the greenery. The façade remains closed on the street side, but opens up generously on the garden side to let in light, views, and nature.
