The high ceiling, generous window openings and the original wood flooring were the features that guided the renovation of this 70’s apartment in São Paulo central region.
The abundant natural light that reaches the different rooms, inspired us to choose a lean and neutral color palette and a small number of different materialities in order to value its presence. Each room offers the warmth of the natural light, both direct and indirect, it receives.

In order to accommodate the new residents, few spatial modifications were needed from the original plan. The service dorm was transformed into a walk-in closet and bathroom for the couple’s suite, and part of the kitchen was used for a built-in closet in the private circulation.

The elongated piece of custom furniture finished with a dark wood veneer, contrasting with the white elements of the room, spreads along the room connecting the dinner area with the living and lead the sight through the large window, in a desire to connect interior and exterior, with the street tree tops acting as a garden. The same thought was reproduced in the other living spaces, but through other elements, as in the kitchen where the monochromatic cabinets act as contrasting blocks with the abundant exterior light.

The contrast between colors and materials suggests how the space works but light and flexible furniture, such as Alça table and Trevo Chair, that has a mini table attached, allow each user to experience the space as they wish. 

At night, the artificial light tries to replicate the indirect daylight through the delicate light fixtures designed to this project and constructed in place with galvanized steel u profile and fixed through threaded rods to the ceiling. The scale of the space is boosted by these long light fixtures and the built-in steel shelves, custom made and detailed for the project. 

That way, we seek for experiences that affect all senses and allow new versions of the proposed architectural space by personal constructions.
